
All About Ivy Chuang
Ivy Chuang is a Hong Kong flutist and piccoloist whose career encompasses orchestral performance, solo appearances, chamber music, and music education. She performs regularly with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra and the Hong Kong Sinfonietta as a freelance flute and piccolo player.
Having begun her flute studies at the age of ten, Ivy started performing with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra at seventeen and subsequently toured extensively with the orchestra. Her international orchestral engagements include appearances with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (UK), Orquesta Sinfónica del Principado de Asturias (Spain), Hangzhou Philharmonic Orchestra (China), and the Macao Orchestra.
As a soloist and guest artist, she has collaborated with the Boston University Wind Ensemble, Hong Kong Wind Ensemble, Providence College Wind Ensemble, Chung Chi Wind Orchestra of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, and the New Hong Kong Philharmonia. In 2018, she made her debut as the first artist representing Brannen Brothers Flutemakers at the National Flute Association Annual Convention in Orlando, USA.
Throughout her career, Ivy has worked with distinguished conductors including Pinchas Zukerman, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Lorin Maazel, Sergiu Comissiona, Edo de Waart, Sir Neville Marriner, and Jaap van Zweden. Her performances have taken her across four continents and to major concert venues including the Royal Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Konzerthaus Berlin, and Suntory Hall in Tokyo.
Alongside her performing career, Ivy is a dedicated educator and adjudicator. She currently teaches flute and piccolo at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Baptist University, The Education University of Hong Kong, and The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.
She is regularly invited to present masterclasses and serve on competition juries across Asia. Her adjudicating engagements include the Young Musicians Competition (Macao), HKYACEA (Hong Kong), Princess Galyani Vadhana International Ensemble Competition (Thailand), Singapore Flute Competition, Wakayama International Music Festival 2025 (Japan), the 2025 Maestrio International Elite Flute Competition, and the 2nd HKIFA International Flute Competition.
An alumna of the Asian Youth Orchestra, Ivy toured internationally with the orchestra for two seasons and now serves as flute and piccolo coach for its Summer Orchestra programme. She has also been invited as faculty of the Rondo Festival (Malaysia) for four consecutive years, as well as the Maestrio Formosa Flute Festival 2024, Lina Summer Camp of Music 2025, and Hong Kong Flute Summer Camp 2024 and 2025. Through her performing and educational work, she remains committed to nurturing young musicians and promoting music education throughout Asia.
Ivy holds a Bachelor of Music (First Class Honours) from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and a Postgraduate Diploma with Distinction from the Royal Northern College of Music. She was awarded the Jardine Matheson Scholarship by the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music to pursue her postgraduate studies in the United Kingdom.
Her debut solo album, Russian Classics, was released in 2020.
Ivy is an artist of Brannen Brothers Flutemakers, representing Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Singapore. From 2018 to 2020, she served as the company’s sole artist in Asia. She performs on a Brannen Brothers 19.5K Rose Gold flute with an 18K Lafin headjoint.
